Cannabis Purchasing - It is illegal to purchase recreational cannabis in Nunavut from anyone other than the NULC or the NULC’s agents. The NULC’s approved agents are listed below. This list will be amended as agents are added or removed.

Responsible sales - We check ID every time, and politely but firmly refuse service to anyone who appears to be intoxicated.

Responsible service - The GN works with licensed establishments and event organizers to promote the responsible service of alcohol.

Local Control - The NULC supports Nunavut’s system of local control, as each community can choose whether to allow, restrict or prohibit liquor in their municipality.

Import Restrictions & Permits - There are rules about bringing liquor into Nunavut. The GN makes it easy to purchase import permits for those who wish to buy from other jurisdictions.

Alcohol Pricing - Did you know the NULC applies higher mark-ups on products with higher alcohol by volume (a.b.v.)? Pricing is one small way the NULC can help nudge Nunavummiut towards lower-alcohol products.

Iqaluit beer and wine store pilot - In September 2017 the NULC opened its first walk-in retail store. Located in Iqaluit, the pilot store makes it more convenient to buy lower-alcohol beverages like beer and wine, and so is a way to help people shift away from importing higher-alcohol spirits.

Special Ocassion Permits - Concert? Work party? Fundraiser? Wedding? If you are organizing or hosting an event with alcohol, be sure to check in with the Nunavut Liquor and Cannabis Board to apply for a special occasion permit.
